Dr. Fang Yang is a tenured Associate Professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, and an IET Fellow. His distinguished honors include the Changjiang Young Scholar award by the Ministry of Education, the Young Scientist Award from the Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE), the Outstanding Young Scholar in Engineering Frontiers by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and selection for the Young Talent Support Project by the China Association for Science and Technology. He obtained his Ph.D. from Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University in July 2009, receiving the Tsinghua Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. His research focuses on optical wireless communications, intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS), and integrated sensing and communication (ISAC). As principal investigator, he has led multiple national research initiatives including projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Major Project "Broadband Wireless Mobile Communication Networks," Key R&D Program intergovernmental collaborations under MOST, and MIIT's high-quality development special projects. He has published over 200 papers (including 100+ SCI-indexed articles) and holds 60 authorized invention patents plus 2 PCT patents. Dr. Yang serves as a committee member of the National Information Technology Standardization Technical Committee, participates in ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6 and SC25, acts as an ITU-R Working Party 6 expert, and is Secretary-General of the Interconnection Subcommittee for Information Technology Equipment. He has significantly contributed to standardizing visible light communication and power-line communication technologies, promoting their adoption in ISO and ITU international standards. His research earned the IEEE Scott Helt Memorial Award for best journal paper, and his achievements received China's State Science and Technology Progress Award (First Class, 2016). Additional honors include Natural Science Awards (Second Class) and Science & Technology Progress Awards (Second Class) from CIE and the Ministry of Education, the Wu Wenjun AI Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class), and technical innovation awards from the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering. His inventions have garnered top honors including the WSIS Champion Prize, Geneva International Inventions Exhibition Gold Medal with Polish Delegation Special Award, China Invention Exhibition Gold Medal, Beijing Invention Innovation Competition Gold Medal, and China Outstanding Patent Award.
