In order to further realize the cultivation mode of general education in professional background, implement the teaching method of students' active learning under the guidance of teachers, strengthen the design, research based and practical teaching contents, and meet the needs of innovative talents for national economic construction and national defense construction, the "Experimental Teaching Center of Tsinghua University Department of Electronic Engineering" was established in 2008. The Experimental Center currently has 7 main laboratories: Electronic Circuit Laboratory, Media and Cognition Laboratory, Physical Electronics and Optoelectronics Technology Laboratory, Integrated Electronic System Design Laboratory, Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Laboratory, Communication and Network Laboratory, Computer and Network Laboratory; 3 related laboratories: Signal Processing Laboratory, Exploration and Innovation Laboratory, and Laser Darkroom Laboratory.
The center also has 8 joint laboratories under it: Tsinghua-Yeide Technology Electronic System Design Laboratory, Tsinghua-Yeide Technology Modern Communication Laboratory, Tsinghua-Yeide Technology Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Laboratory, Tsinghua-Yeide Technology EEsof ADS Microwave Simulation Joint Laboratory, ASUSTeK-Tsinghua Next Generation Portable Digital Equipment Teaching and Research Joint Laboratory, ZTE NC Education and Certification Management Center Network Teaching Lab of Tsinghua University Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University-ALTERA SOPC/DSP Joint Lab and Training Center, and Tsinghua University-Xilinx Digital System Joint Teaching Lab.
The center covers an area of 1552.65 square meters and has 11 full-time staff members, including 5 doctors and 4 masters, who undertake nearly 40 experimental courses every year and accept more than 2000 undergraduate and graduate students from faculties and other majors of the university, with a total teaching workload of nearly 200,000 hours.
The center takes the cultivation of students' innovation ability, practical ability and entrepreneurship as the core, relies on the existing teaching resources, strengthens the main position of students, follows the law of education and teaches according to the material, strives to create an atmosphere conducive to the development of students' creativity and personality, and forms a good environment for the cultivation of innovative talents.
The center insists on combining practice with new developments in contemporary electronic technology, constantly integrating and updating teaching contents, and keeping the teaching contents basic, cutting-edge and contemporary. Create a new system of hierarchical, independent and open teaching with the goal of cultivating ability and innovation spirit, and speed up the transformation from experimental resources division type to comprehensive utilization open type, from traditional teacher-apprentice teaching type to comprehensive service open type, and from cognitive type to practical innovation open type.
Innovative talents practice training construction is a system project, which involves all aspects of education work. At present, the Experimental Center has only made some preliminary attempts on the cultivation concept, cultivation measures and cultivation programs, while in fact, the combination of in-class and extra-curricular resources, the relationship between innovation education and professional education, the interaction between talent cultivation and competition training and the transformation of training results and real productivity are issues that need further exploration and research. We also sincerely hope that these efforts in innovation education will not only help students to cultivate their innovation ability, but also be useful for the ongoing education reform in China.
