Bowen Zhou is a Huiyan Chair Professor at Tsinghua University, a tenured Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Director of the Center for Collaborative and Cognitive Interaction Intelligence (C3I), and the Founder of Xianyuan Technology. He is also a Fellow of IEEE and CAAI.
Professor Zhou brings a wealth of experience from both cutting-edge research and industry. He previously served as Director of the AI Foundation Lab at IBM Research, Chief Scientist of the IBM Watson Group, IBM Distinguished Engineer, Senior Vice President of JD.com, Chairman of the JD Group Technology Committee, and President of JD Cloud & AI. In 2022, he returned to academia from industry.
His research interests include speech and natural language processing, multimodal and knowledge representation, understanding, generation, reasoning, human-computer dialogue, and trustworthy AI. He has published over 100 papers with more than 21,000 citations and holds dozens of domestic and international patents.
He proposed a self-attentive multi-head fusion mechanism for natural language representation, which later became one of the core ideas of the Transformer architecture and has been cited over 2,000 times by papers such as Transformer and GAT. He also proposed two natural language generation model architectures and algorithms in the field of AIGC, which have been cited more than 3,000 times.
