Physical Layer Security for IoT

The industrial IoT and smart road system have much higher requirements for system security than other wireless networks. On the one hand, the fast-moving vehicles and heavy robotic arms can cause fatal accidents if the system is compromised by malicious adversaries. On the other hand, the intellectual property of the products manufactured by the intelligent workshop is related to critical economic interests while the data shared in the smart road system is very important to the users’ privacy. Since the communication and sensing subsystems in the industrial IoT and smart road system are deeply intertwined with the surrounding physical environments, malicious adversaries can launch various physical layer attacks that were not possible in conventional networks, such as simultaneously attacking IoT’s communication and sensing subsystems through the wireless channel. To this end, I plan to explore the physical layer security for the two types of IoT systems.
