随着无线通信需求的爆发增长，以及LED等固体照明的快速普及，基于半导体光源的可见光通信技术受到越来越多的重视，通过将照明的泛在覆盖转化为可见光通信的泛在覆盖，为解决物联网大规模接入、无线通信频谱短缺，无线通信盲区覆盖和绿色节能等应用需求提供了“照通一体化”的解决方案。
实验室主要研究方向包括可见光通信、可见光定位、紫外光通信等。目前，相关研究领域已经取得一系列重要进展，并获得众多发明专利。
